On the occasion of International Mountain Day on 11th December 2017, the First RS Tolia Memorial Lecture was organized in UCOST on the theme “Mountain under pressure, climate, hunger and migration” at the Regional Science Centre (RSC, Vigyan Dham). The lecture was delivered by Shri Chandi Prasad Bhatt (Padma Vibhushan) and a well-known environmentalist. The Lecture was organized by UCOST, SDFU and GBPNIHESD.
Dr. Rajendra Dobhal (DG UCOST & Chairman SDFU), delivered the lecture and the importance of International Mountain Day for the Himalayan communities and also said that the Late Dr. RS Tolia started the movement and united the people of not only 12 Himalayan states but also of 8 Hindukush countries. The other highlighted issue by the speaker was the lack of political willpower and also the presence of various environmental acts with no implementation at ground level and disasters, various river basins, a brief description of flora and fauna of the Himalayan region and various other movements for the protection of the environment. The lecture was attended by SDFU councilors, Experts, students from various schools and colleges and UCOST officials and staff.
